The Northern Ireland Design Alliance passionately believes in the power of design thinking to solve the bigger problems that we face in industry, culture and in wider society.

To test this belief we hosted a day long, hands-on design thinking workshop.

We invited participants from the worlds of design, industry and education – and a few others to mix things up – to create a design thinking day; a day designed to apply design to one of a number of everyday problems we face day-in, day-out; problems that might benefit from the application of design thinking.

The theme for this first event was ‘transport’. We could have chosen ‘banking’ or ‘health care’ – and, in future, we may consider all of these avenues – but ‘transport’, on this occasion won, perhaps because many of us grapple with the pressing problems of transport on a daily basis.

The day was a great success, thanks to the skilled facilitation of Christopher Murphy and Jamie Neely, and the active participation of all who attended.

We will shortly be producing a report summarising the outcomes from the day, but in the meantime, here are a few photos of the day in action…
