NIDA Student Design Awards 2012

  • When: Thursday, 9 Feb 2012 at 6-7pm
  • Where: University of Ulster, Belfast campus
  • Who: Northern Ireland Design Alliance

After the success of last year’s Student Design Awards, we have once again partnered with the University of Ulster to run a Design Competition for students studying Visual Communications .  This year we had 7 local design companies participating as mentors and we would like to say a MASSIVE THANK-YOU to them all: Frank, Thought Collective, McCadden, Bag of Bees, AV Browne, Eyesparks and Tandem.

The aim of the competition is to help students develop their professional design skills through industry mentoring.  Each student team was allocated a mentor and over the course of 3 weeks in January, worked with this company to respond to a challenging design brief.

Each team then presented their work to a judging panel of professional designers; Mark Case from Whitenoise, Pete Kerr from Atto Partners, Colin McKeown and Darragh Neely from Darragh Neely Design Works.

And the winner of the 2012 NIDA Student Competition is…

Tanya Clarke, Laura Maginnis and Mark McGrann. Congratulations to them and their mentors AV Browne!

Thanks to everyone who took part this year; to all the students who participated and produced some great design work, to our mentors, judges and McGowans who kindly sponsored the competition this year.
